The pool deck decision
There's no single best pool-deck material — it depends on your pool, your yard, and how you use it. Travertine is our most recommended pool deck: natural stone, stays cool to the touch in July sun, sealed against salt-pool exposure, and ages beautifully. Fits almost any home style.
Composite pool decks (Trex Transcend, TimberTech AZEK) work for pool homes where you want a wood-look without the maintenance. We use only light-tone composites around pools — dark boards get hot. Pavers (EP Henry, Cambridge, Techo-Bloc) give you the most design flexibility with patterns and borders, but stone joints need polymeric sand every 5–7 years.
Coordinated with your pool contractor
If your pool is already in, we work around the existing coping. If your pool is going in new, we coordinate directly with your pool contractor on bond beam height, coping profile, and expansion joint placement. That coordination alone prevents the most common pool-deck failure — cracking at the coping line.
